At this point all nine lives should be used up and he should be on the floor asleep from sheer exhaustion, yet that is not the case! And while the realism was a bit lacking, as is tradition in this genre, this was as close to realism as it seems to get, which I appreciated.
When they’re in the cavern in the mountain, a bad guy has his gun on Horvath, but of course has to give a little speech first, allowing the Swiss agent to save him again.
It reads a lot like a Ludlum novel, with contemporary overtones.
Somehow Agent Harvath manages to escape this insane situation that he put himself into with only a grazing gunshot wound. There were times that the character development and individual scenes really drew me in, and there were times, especially during the gun fights, where it felt stereotypical.

The president takes the Death Chute followed by the majority of the Secret Service agents, and Scott helps the less skilled daughter down an easier route. It just doesn’t measure up to more rbad average, at best. This is my first Brad Thor. Not impossible to believe the above mind you–just hard.

Then Superman – I mean, Horvath, proceeds to dig them out, take off much of his own clothing to put on the daughter, and starts trekking down the mountain until they are found by members of the detail that were stationed in the cabin. The Scot Harvath Series. When I was forced to step away from the book I lucerrne myself thinking about it Brad Thor ‘s Scot Harvath Series comes very close. The momentum of the plot alone may satisfy some readers.
An honest attempt to make Thor’s prose more concise would likely result in reducing the book’s page count by half. Scot does look like invincible superman though – the bad guys fail to kill him many times. Here’s hoping Brad Thor stays on a similar path! We’re talking head-hopping, intrusive dialogue tagging, jarring frequent F-bombs, designer label name-dropping and awkwardly constructed sentences that don’t flow–added to that is a Barbie Doll “gorgeous” nrad interest and indestructible Marty Stu ex-SEAL Olympic-class skier protagonist Scot Harvath.
Some very powerful men have paid mercenaries to keep the POTUS alive and well while a piece of legislation he wants falters in the Senate. Very happy to keep on reading whatever Brad Thor puts out there. There’s another thing that irritates me to no end: What a happy coincidence! At this point in the story he is still walking and fighting as if he hasn’t been slammed into a boulder while skiing at top speed to get away from an avalanche, whacked in the back of the head with enough force to knock him out in his apartment, popped in the jaw during hand to hand combat with mercenaries, and taken a grazing bullet wound to his arm or lucernne.
A conspiracy at the highest levels of government causes the skiing party to be ambushed and only Harvath, the President and his daughter survive the assault. I am beyond stunned that this book averages a four-star rating; I can’t believe lkons there are intelligent people who love this stuff. OK, that’s all fine. On the snowy Utah slopes, thirty Secret Service agents are viciously executed and the vacationing president of the United States kidnapped, seemingly by the Fatah, a lethal terrorist organization in the Middle East.
First of all, I found the pacing rather off. Action-packed and continuously moving, our intrepid hero is above average smart and resilient. First of all, Mormon bishops are not “ministers” in the Protestant sense, but clergical leaders.
